A few years back I was on a tour of the NASA facility at Cape Canaveral. As the shuttle programme had finished we were allowed in the Vehicle Assembly Building as part of the tour (this one).

This is the largest single-story building in the world.
One of the things that they told us, was that when it had people working in it, they had a dedicated team to go and rescue people who had freaked out while working at significant heights within it. Apparently this was fairly common.
You're not alone anyway.. :)

I was in South Quay Plaza (11th floor) yesterday, I looked out the window at the construction cranes opposite and that gave me the willies...
Planes and lifts I am okay with, going near edges and being up high and I get sweats!! I cannot climb a vertical ladder more than 10ft.

I have a fear of heights when I don't feel secure. I could go up in a lift to whatever height and not bothered. Walked across glass floor's at the top of skyscrapers, no problem. But if I am near an edge or just don't feel secure it does me in.
So I went to Split with the wife some years ago. She kept going on about going up this humungous tower to get the views across the bay. I thought no worries.
We got inside and it was basically a giant tube with a bloody staircase winding around the sides of the walls. Had a hand rail but it was all very open and I got that insecure feeling.
We started going up and I was fine. Got a quarter of the way up and I started peeking down and it suddenly hit me. I started getting all a bit funny and wobbly.
We got halfway up (and this thing is high) and I started going a bit slower and soon she was almost a full circle ahead of me and she's going "Come on, are you knackered?". I'm like "I don't like it". People were behind me now. I tried to keep going and in the end I just had to sit down as close to wall as possible.
She came back down and I said "I can't do it". It was awful feeling. Just like a slight spinning and the feeling of falling. Awful.
In the end I crept slowly back down on my bum being passed by old people and kids (embarrassing) and just got outside and sat on a bench. The feeling was euphoric.
I see her up the top waving. Never forget that.

Done a couple of parachute jumps and found them a bit boring, but that lot are plain insane!

Toyed about doing this while we was in the Canyon but just ran out of time .... the Mules are quite superb... never seen an animal so sure footed in all my life and obviously do not have a fear of heights...

We ended up just doing a few of the trails... Bright Angel one was the best... we done it the same time as a coachload of Japs turned up... how none of them died I will never know... absolute crazy fuckers

Ha Ha great viewing that... no way I could do those things... however conquered some demons a few weeks ago... me and my daughter done the Yosemite Glacier Point overhang... knees were a knocking to begin with but when you inch out there there's not a single breath of wind and you feel quite exhilarated .... done a few of the overhangs at the Grand Canyon later on... got a taste of it by then
